Inventory Management

We specialize in component inventory management. We have deep experience handling complex device assembly in which tens to hundreds of components come together to form a single product. We have developed an industry-leading system of lot code traceability, cycle counting, and overall inventory tracking and control.

Our ability to track a component lot code from receipt, into inventory, and then into a specific product, along with maintaining the detailed history of each component’s movement, sets us apart.

At Life Science Outsourcing, lot numbers are assigned as per customer preference and remain the unique identifier through inventory, manufacturing, packaging, and distribution. Once the product is assembled and assigned its own identifier, component lot numbers are recorded in the product device history record (DHR), allowing for continued tracking ability. A complete product trail, including lot numbers and DHRs, are maintained in our advanced enterprise resource planning (ERP) system. This unique software allows our staff to fulfill our promise of absolute traceability.

One of the many benefits of a well-controlled component inventory management process is the ability to be notified of approaching expiration dates of components/products. This forewarning gives clients the opportunity to choose whether to scrap the materials or have them reworked by the Life Science Outsourcing team. We can also generate inventory reports, which are provided upon demand.

Temperature-controlled Warehousing

For perishable products such as medical supplies and pharmaceuticals, warehouse storage requires attentive control. Variations in humidity and temperature can have consequences of disastrous proportions if they cause things such as medicines to become ineffective or result in the collapse of vital medical equipment.

Ensuring the temperature stays within a given range is fairly straightforward for a small area. However, when goods are transferred to larger spaces, especially warehouses, a variety of problems may arise. Inconsistencies in temperature can occur as racking or shelves may cause “hot spots” by obstructing air circulation. Temperatures also tend to be higher by heaters or lower next to dock loading bays where the doors are constantly opened and closed.

New technologies now enable the recording and logging of detailed information for changes in things such as the average temperature inside a specific package within a warehouse. These devices, or data loggers, monitor temperature, humidity, and other conditions for items in storage or transit. The highest / lowest temperatures are recorded, and any time spent outside of these preset limits.

In temperature-controlled warehousing, the packaging in which products are stored is of equal importance. However, with recent changes to the world due to global warming and the overall environmental impact that we have on the planet, packaging has changed considerably. Many conventional solutions for packaging are now scarce and have brought forth temperature-controlled packaging via PCMs, or phase change materials. PCMs can frequently be reused as well which assists not only in minimizing carbon footprint but allows companies to operate more efficiently.

Orthopedic Warehousing & Distribution

Because Orthopedic Kits contain so many instruments and implants, they are incredibly expensive to manufacture and end up tying up significant capital. One of the best ways to drive down that capital need is by increasing the amount of revenue each set of instruments and implants can make for you. By pulling your underused inventory back from hospitals and distributors and placing it in a regional warehouse, you can provide better support to your customers, while maximizing the number of surgeries per orthopedic kit.

Life Science Outsourcing’s warehousing and distribution services are designed to do exactly that. By tapping into our existing infrastructure in Southern California, our customers can quickly and cost effectively pool their regional inventory. This enables them to better control inventory, service their hospitals and sales reps, and significantly save shipping costs. Our distribution services, in conjunction with our loaner kit processing services, allow our clients to reduce the inventory they need in southern California while enhancing sales.

Shelf and Shipping Box Design and Configuration

Through our extensive work with startups, Life Science Outsourcing’s engineering teams have regularly manufactured products for the customer’s clinical trials.
